bootWebCourse You Can Malcolm will be hosted by TNS Records this Saturday. TNS (That’s Not Skanking) are a Manchester-based record label that grew out of the TNS fanzine. Their desire to promote ‘underground Punk and Ska’ in an ethical and democratic way led them to work with bands to put on gigs and generate a supportive music community. TNS is a not-for-profit organisation who believe that music can act as a positive force politically and socially and can be a lot of fun. They produce a free fanzine and a free radio show. TNS will be entertaining us with one of their bands, Bootscraper.

“Formed in the summer of 2008 in the backstreets of Leeds, 7-piece Aggro-folk mob Bootscraper quickly gained themselves a reputation for their highly skilled musicianship, brilliant song-writing, and a captivating, energetic live show both locally and nationally.tnsfanzine14Web

They signed to Manchester punk label TNS Records for their first album “Country & Eastern” which saw them drawing upon their many musical influences to produce a mix of country, balkan, punk, sea shanty, rockabilly, bluegrass, folk, gypsy and blues music which gained them rave reviews from magazines, radio stations and audiences at live venues on a national and international level. The eclectic nature of Bootscraper’s music means that there is no audience regardless of age, background or taste that can resist the musical charms of their wild and truly original sound”.

tnsWebHowever, 12th January will be the last day of bass playing for their bass player who has committed Bootscraping suicide by getting a job. His very last gig will be at the TNS ‘Beach Party’, which Bootscraper will be playing at on Saturday evening at Kraak Gallery. (They will be joined by Stand Out Riot, who play a mix of ska, punk and folk, Revenge Of The Psychotronic Man, the melodic punk of Wonk Unit, hardcore from War Party and punky ska from The Crash Mats. Doors open at 7 and it’ll cost you a fiver).

The abandoned Boxing Day CYCM still managed to cough up a total of £251 for beer and £71.80 for food and tea. Making a grand total of £322.80. Good drinking and eating, Malcolmites.
