Heart and Soule

Football is a pleasant game, played in the sun, played in the rain but sometimes, as we’ve seen with many below-expected performances this season it can be a bit shit too. And in our case we should be aware that it’s not shit because people don’t care or even because they don’t have the ability. If you look at any great achievement it is blighted by it’s shit moments. You only have to watch the Treble DVD to see the interview with Blomqvist at Goodison when he’s wearing the most ridiculous looking suit and tie and his recently Wash n Go’d bouffant hair flapping all over the place to know that beautiful things have their ‘ooh, that’s a bit shit’ moments. Add to that Schmeichel’s performance at Hillsborough or Boro at Old Trafford, neither of which make Solskjaer’s winner in the Nou Camp lose any of it’s orgasmicness. FC United’s assistant manager, Roy Soule, arrived at the club having returned from the US, where he spent some time coaching. Roy is a respected former-scout for several professional clubs but more to the point he was brought in and is trusted implicitly by one Karl Marginson. All anyone needs to know about Roy Soule is that he’s not the sort of person who would edit Blomqvist out because he knows that his goal, complete with the freakishly poor Denis Law sleeve celebration, was a component part of altogether beautiful football season, as was Schmeichels non-catch. A belated welcome to FC United Roy….
