Covers story – AFL11 now on sale

Submitted by on October 30, 2013 – 10:02 pmNo Comment

Issue 11 of AFLM:SPG is now released.

As usual it is available from Cornerhouse on Oxford Road, Manchester, from the National Football Museum in Manchester and from the Working Class Movement Library on Crescent in Salford. It will be £2 from all these outlets.

It will also be sold at (most) FC United of Manchester games from now until there are none left…

We are also selling it on our online stall for the first time. Due to the paypal and postage costs we are going to sell it for £3 to cover ourselves and ensure that enough proceeds still go towards FC United of Manchester’s new home in Moston. Click here to buy it.

The issue contains the usual drivel courtesy of the usual drivellers.

Issue 11 was meant to be the one that marked our moving into Moston. Unfortunately, life got in the way and we will have to wait until late summer 2013 for that to become a reality.

To mark issue 11 we decided early in the life of AFLM:SPG that we would explain all our front cover pictures. So we do just that in this new issue. It makes for a lovely meander through our shared red, mancuinan histories. From Peterloo to potty nocturnal Ken.

Mick Middles writes about the Distractions and is ably assisted on the music front by Scott Taylor (Jocelyn Brown) and Midjmo Matt (Jason Molina) as per usual. We also have an interview with Richard McNevin-Duff, who fronted Factory Records’ last ever band Space Monkeys. Revelations-a-plenty…

Unlike us, we know, but we have some articles on FC United courtesy of J Walter Weatherman and Talkative and our resident Daily Mail reader Mick Turdkis has his say on politics and football.

We have articles on the Rome derby, forgotten graveyards, immigrants (as everyone in our city is) and an excerpt from the excellent new book from Lung original Andy Davies – City of Gangs. We focus on the Old Firm cos we thought you would like that.

There is plenty more for your two pounds. We hope you enjoy it.

Spiritly, patiencely, gentlenessly yours.
