Carden’s rosy

On the eve of FC United’s game against Frickley Athletic, manager Karl Marginson compared midfielder Simon Carden with Paul Scholes.
Following Carden’s brace in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Worksop, the reds’ boss spoke of the Peter Pan qualities of the age-defying chain-smoker (Carden, not Scholes, just to clarify for our legal people).

Margy said: “Si has been one of our best performers at whatever level we have played since the club’s formation.
“He was outstanding in the first campaign and then four years later he won last season’s player of the year. He just keeps on going.
“He has changed his game somewhat and doesn’t bomb forward as much as he used to – similar to what has happened with Scholes at Old Trafford. He conserves his energy and that has prolonged his career.
“People keep being surprised by the amount of goals both get. Carden is one of the best finishers around when he does get in the box. He will be around for a while yet.”

Carden will hopefully (cos if he doesn’t we will look a bit daft now) feature in FC’s match at Frickley tomorrow. The address is Tech5 Stadium, Westfield Lane, South Elmsall, Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF9 2EQ. Kick off is 3pm and admission is £8, £5 or £3 on the gate depending on how old you look.
