Course you can riot.

IWD_for_FCUM_2013WebThe story of International Women’s Day begins in 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. This led to the first National Women’s Day, which was observed across the USA in 1909.

On 25 March 1911, a blaze that became known as ‘the Triangle Fire’ in New York killed 146 garment workers, most of them Italian and Jewish female immigrants.
Because the managers had locked the doors to the stairwells and exits – common practice at the time, to prevent what were claimed to be problems of petty pilfering and unauthorised work breaks – many of the
workers who could not escape the burning building jumped to their deaths from the upper storeys. This horrifying event drew significant attention to poor working conditions in the USA – and this issue became a focus of subsequent International Women’s Day events.RiotWeb01

Roughneck Riot will help us celebrate this important international event at Course You Can Riot. Riot say of themselves, ‘Roughneck Riot are a 6 piece band. Influenced by traditional Folk music from around the world, we are reinventing and rewriting Folk music to make sense to our lives today. We write music for people, regardless of race, nationality, age, gender or sexuality. In a country with a government trying to destroy it, and a music industry run by money hungry people who couldn’t care less about musicians, we are here as a voice amongst many in the scene ready to be heard. We are here to play Folk Punk music. From nowhere & everywhere’.

RiotWeb02We will also have FC United women’s team members taking questions and frightening the be-jesus out of all men over the age of 40. Their intelligence and humour is only surpassed by their excellent footballing prowess. FC women rarely leave the football pitch without devastating the opposition. While the FC women’s team run riot on the pitch, the Roughnecks will run riot with their brand of folk punk and Blaine is running riot baking a cake.

We will also be showing the much acclaimed and truly astonishing film, ‘A Woman’s Place is on the Pitch’.IWDWeb

The all-male food production team will provide veggie pizza, tea, tater ash and many other edible and non-edible delights. Our riot of food is only outwitted by the ludicrous cheapness of the beer and stylish variety.

It’s hard to imagine how Course You Can Malcolm can be any more Course You Can Malcolm without becoming a parody of itself.

You will have to get there early because you just won’t get in. We want your bellies, ears and eyes, what you do with the rest of you is up to you.

STOP PRESS: Attila the Stockbroker, the Brighton fan who many FC fans will be familiar with, is doing a 15 minute poetry set at 1pm. Make sure you get in early.
