Peculiar happenings at CYCM on January 28th…

A few people have contacted AFL to stress concerns that a certain football match, rearranged for television audiences, taking place on the same day as FC United of Manchester play Hednesford Town in a Norther Premier League promotion influencer, may effect pre-match favourite Course You Can Malcolm.

People have been mithering the Malcolmses staff about what will happen to their favourite shindig in these unique circumstances. Fortunately for those of you who like an alternative to being dictated to by television (be it Sky or ITV, it’s all the same racket) or the dibble, and like good music, there will be acts on as usual at CYCM in the building behind the Manchester Road End at Gigg Lane.

To allay fears and prevent confusion, we are very excited to announce that we booked Salford singer Girl Peculiar, a long time before the FA Cup fourth round draw was even made.

Here is what her manager Ed Blaney, of The Fall fame, has to say about our next performer: “Girl Peculiar has recently gained great admiration across the whole music industry and press alike.

“Already a regular favourite on BBC Manchester music and ‘Introducing’ shows, Marc Riley’s BBC 6 music show placed her debut low key release Destiny in his top ten songs of last year. Her words and melodies are very infectious and it’s hard to put her in a category. Live, she delivers without effort, simplistic yet catchy ballads with tales from ‘bangers and mash’ to ‘stars’.”

Furthermore, in a recent article in Metro, David Sue described ‘one in a million’ Jenny Shuttleworth (aka Girl Peculiar) as: ‘Salford’s queen of kooky pop’. We are told that Jenny has sang on Hollywood’s sunset strip, Tokyo’s Ruby Rooms, toured Thailand, supported bands including The Fall, The Charlatans, Peter Hook and Shaun Ryder and also co-wrote and performed the bookies’ favourite England alternative world cup song in 2010 ‘England’s Heartbeat’ with The Fall’s Mark E Smith and Ed Blaney himself. So you can forgive us our excitement.

A proper preview will come next week…when we hope to confirm other performers…or not… This pre-preview is purely to give people prior warning and reassurance. Usual door regulations will apply and all profits go to the club as always, but you know that anyway…
