Manchester against Tory CU(n)TS

FC United and A Fine Lung were well represented at the March for the Alternative in Manchester city centre on Sunday.

Estimates from the dibble (so add 5,000) put the participating numbers at around 35,000 and the completely peaceful march and rally showed a strength of feeling not just against the cuts being imposed by the Government but against the occupation of our city by the Conservative party and their supporters.

The Tories in hotels and bars around the area waved money, made throat-slitting gestures and gave off cliched smug grins as the marchers passed and, of course, the police did nothing to stop their behaviour, which nearly resulted in flashpoints on several occasions.

It was infuriating to see signs outside the G-Mex reading ‘Welcome to Manchester’, because no matter how much money them being here may bring in, they should never be made welcome in our city.

FC United staff, board members and volunteers proudly carried the supporters’ ‘Making Friends Not Millionaires’ banner.
