Be part of it, no really…

FC United travel to Bradford Park Avenue tonight in the semi-final of the Northern Premier League play-offs. Manager Karl Marginson had a parrot with AFL on the eve of the reds’ biggest game so far.

He stressed the importance of United’s travelling hordes and used his new favourite word ‘cauldron’…

Margy said: “We may be away, but with our fantastic support it will make no difference, as our fans will turn it in to a home game.

“It really can make a difference to the team, particularly at the end of a gruelling season, when they have the backing FC fans give them. It drives them over the line and I’m not being corny saying that. It’s a real lift.

“So do whatever you can to get there on Thursday. It’s not possible for all, obviously, but make that extra effort if you can and see what you can do to be there and get behind the lads. Let’s turn their ground into a United cauldron and give ourselves the best possible chance.

“Bradford have become our adversaries over the years and it’s a very healthy rivalry that produces some great matches. I’m sure Thursday night will be no different. The way both team have gone on impressive runs sets this up to be an absolute cracker.

“We beat them for the first time this season, which will give us a psychological boost after some poor results against them in the past.

“They may have lost to us at Gigg Lane but it was clear how good a side they are and we are very much aware of that. So we know it will be a tough game, but we feel that we’ve got the squad that is more than capable of beating them and going on to secure promotion.

“The players have worked incredibly hard to go from second bottom to the play-offs in a matter of a couple of months and there’s no way we’re going to let that hard graft be wasted.

“I have said many times I think we’re the second best team in this league and we wanted to finish as runners up to highlight that, but we can still prove it by winning promotion via the play-offs and that has to be our aim.”
