Union focus on FC United

FC United received a welcome pat on the back from the National Union of Journalists in members’ magazine The Journalist.

The December/January edition of the union publication, rounding up the BBC strike action in November, says: “FC United, a non-league football team formed by disgruntled Manchester United fans, refused to take part in the BBC’s Football Focus after their stunning defeat of League One side Rochdale. The club says it was founded on socialist principles.”

With much industrial action in the journalistic pipeline for the new year, it would be nice to see the club reacting similarly in the future. As an NUJ member currently being balloted over strike action, the club’s stance on the BBC strike was almost as heartwarming as the result at Spotland. Long may it continue.

We all have a long fight ahead as the Tories attempt to break us all to set their horrendous, selfish and spiteful ideologies in stone. FC United, like all community-minded bodies, will play its part in the fight back. Be proud of that and stay solid comrades.
