FC United of Manchester will make their debut in the first round proper of the FA Cup, following a 1-0 win over Conference side Barrow.

The majority of the 3,263 Gigg Lane crowd experienced a true giant killing, with a positive outcome, for arguably the first time in their lives, as reds’ winger Carlos Roca slotted with 15 minutes to go.

United fans have spent most of their days being the giants in danger of being slain, but Sunday gave us all a feeling supporters of many clubs have already experienced over the years. And it was lovely.

It was the right result, as Barrow offered very little and seemed to be settling for a draw. Given their poor away form this season, it was understandable. But the reds kept pressing and Michael Norton’s mis-hit shot was turned home by Roca to spark jubilant scenes.

The draw was kind, with a trip to Rochdale in the first round being our prize. We would have preferred Sheffield Wednesday, or maybe Bournemouth or a good trip somewhere, but we shouldn’t complain. Never happy some people.

Dale will fancy their chances as they are doing well this season, but if United raise their game as they did yesterday, you just never know.

Absolutely chuffed to bits for everyone at FCUM.

Go back six years and imagine thinking this,
“Rochdale better not underestimate us, they’ll be in for a shock if they do!”
