Manchester’s very own Marathon des Sables is taking place next week and it’s a great day out. It’s a leisurely 6k run in Chorlton Meadows with a meet up on the green at 12 noon.

This is the third year of the minithon and this year it is raising money for a local charity, The Frost Foundation.

For those who just want a Sunday afternoon stroll, I believe that Dave Bishop will be giving a guided tour of the meadows pointing out all the local flora and fauna, if you don’t know this corner of south Manchester I can absolutely recommend this.

If you are interested please sign up here www.fc-utd.co.uk/minithon2010

If this all sounds like too much hard work why not sponsor some of the runners – more information here (scroll down)

For those of you not in Manchester, there are similar runs taking place in Wimbledon, Battersea Park, LA, Boston, Sydney or Dubai.

For more info watch this footage from last year’s event:

Minithon update from fc united website:

    Minithon Big Push

This year’s Minithon is just over a week away and we need a big push if we are to reach our target his year.

In the last two years the Minithon has raised over £20,000 for children charities and provided similar amount of vital income for our club. All the sponsorship monies raised are split between FC and this year’s chosen charity the Frost Foundation for local children and we need to raise sponsorship of £10,000 if we are to reach our targets for this year.

‘The Minithon is a great way of getting out and getting some exercise and showing what the club is all about to a wider audience’, said FC General Manager Andy Walsh. ‘Last year we had runners in locations from Bondi Beach to Boston as well fans of Italian club Torino who ran a parallel event in Turin. This year our friends from fellow fan-owned clubs Merthyr FC and AFC Wimbledon will be taking part and Wimbledon manager Terry Brown has pledged that they will have more runners and raise more money than FC and there is a real danger that he will be right if we don’t get our fingers out sharpish.’

‘The Minithon plays a vital role in our club finances and it does not just rely on supporters dipping into their own pockets instead by asking family, friends and work colleagues to sponsor we can raise additional cash from outside our regular supporter base– registering is dead easy and a fundraising page can be easily set up using the http://www.justgiving.com website.

All we need is 200 participants raising just £50 each and we would reach our target:
